Preparation methods for Nitrided Ferro Manganese:
Liquid nitriding method: Nitrogen gas is introduced into the liquid medium of low-carbon ferromanganese in a closed container to fill the alloy with gaseous or solid nitrogen components. The resulting Nitrided Ferro Manganese has advantages such as high density, high strength, and high nitrogen utilization during steelmaking. However, due to the lower nitrogen content, it often fails to meet the requirements of steel refining.
Solid nitriding method:
In a closed container, solid media are heated to low-carbon ferromanganese powder and nitrogen gas is fully introduced to nitride the powder. The solid powder of low-carbon ferromanganese reacts with nitrogen released from nitrogen or ammonia gas to form a series of nitrogen-containing compounds. The stability of these nitrides decreases with increasing temperature until decomposition. Therefore, this method requires appropriate nitriding temperatures. In some cases, manganese iron powder with a particle size less than 60 mesh is nitrided in a closed container with nitrogen gas at temperatures ranging from 650°C to 1120°C for 4-8 hours, resulting in Nitrided Ferro Manganese containing 4-6% nitrogen. The nitrogen content increases with increasing manganese content but decreases with increasing carbonized manganese content. The nitrogen content of high-manganese low-carbon ferromanganese is slightly higher than that of low-manganese medium-carbon ferromanganese. The density of the resulting iron product is low, but it increases after melting, while the nitrogen content significantly decreases. Approximately 1 ton of Nitrided Ferro Manganese requires 1 ton of low-carbon ferromanganese and 1500 kWh of electricity.
